Why We Carry the Chameleon

The Surftech Chameleon is one of our best-selling stand up paddleboards because it finds the sweet spot between stability, efficiency and value. It gives recreational paddlers a noticeable increase in performance without requiring them to move into a narrow, expensive touring board.

Its lightweight, durable construction makes it easier to carry and dependable for regular use. On the water, the hybrid shape creates a smooth, efficient ride that works equally well for relaxed cruises and longer paddles.

The Chameleon is a go-to recommendation for customers who have outgrown a basic recreational board or want their first premium paddleboard to offer room for progression.

A Hybrid Nose That Glides

The Chameleon’s nose combines a small displacement-style cutting bow with the familiar outline of a traditional stand up paddleboard. This helps the board move cleanly through the water and maintain its direction without making it feel overly narrow or technical.

The result is a smoother glide with fewer corrective paddle strokes, especially during longer Intracoastal paddles. It delivers a noticeable performance improvement while remaining approachable for recreational paddlers.

A Wide Tail for Added Stability

The squared-off, slightly oversized tail provides a stable platform when standing, turning or carrying extra gear. Its shape supports the board’s glide while giving paddlers a more planted and confident feel underfoot.

That combination makes the Chameleon versatile enough for long Intracoastal paddles, casual sandbar cruises and calm-water outings near Coral Cove. Paddlers can also bring a dog, cooler or small child, provided the combined rider, passenger and gear weight remains within the board’s recommended capacity.

Is the Chameleon Right for You?

Are you ready to move from an inflatable or a traditional high-volume recreational board but still want enough stability for the pup, kids, cooler and dry bag? The Chameleon delivers a lighter, more efficient ride without giving up the versatility needed for sandbar trips, cruises to Cato’s and everyday paddling.

Choose the 11'4" Chameleon If You Want More Versatility

The 11'4" Chameleon is slightly sleeker and more efficient through the water than the 11'6" Surftech Lido. Its subtle displacement-style nose improves glide and tracking, while the wide tail provides a stable platform for relaxed paddling and carrying extra gear.

It is a great option when the combined weight of the paddler, passengers and gear is under approximately 200 pounds. This makes it well suited for bringing a small child, dog, cooler or dry bag without moving into a larger, heavier recreational board.

Choose the 10'4" Chameleon If You Want a Smaller Board

The 10'4" Chameleon provides the same combination of lightweight construction, stability and efficient glide in a smaller package. It is easier to carry, transport and maneuver, making it a strong option for smaller paddlers or anyone who does not need the additional space and volume of the 11'4".

For the best performance, we recommend the 10'4" for a combined paddler and gear weight of approximately 180 pounds or less.

Consider the 11'6" Lido If Stability Comes First

Choose the 11'6" Lido if maximum stability, carrying capacity and an easy recreational ride matter more than speed or efficiency. Choose the Chameleon if you want a lighter board with better tracking and glide while retaining enough stability for casual outings and extra gear.

Where We Paddle the Chameleon

The Chameleon’s combination of stability, tracking and efficient glide makes it a versatile choice for the different paddling environments around Jupiter. It is comfortable during an easy sandbar cruise but efficient enough when you want to paddle farther and explore more of the Intracoastal.

Jupiter Intracoastal and Sawfish Bay

The 11'4" Chameleon is especially well suited for longer paddles through the Jupiter Intracoastal and the protected water around Sawfish Bay. Its subtle displacement-style nose helps the board maintain direction, reducing the number of corrective strokes needed as you cover distance.

The wide tail provides a stable platform when dealing with small boat wakes, shifting your stance or stopping to enjoy the view. It is a strong option for recreational paddlers who want to turn a casual outing into a longer fitness or exploration paddle.

Sandbar and Cato’s Cruises

For relaxed trips to the sandbar or Cato’s, the Chameleon provides enough deck space and stability for water, a small cooler, dry bag, pup or little one. The front tie-down system helps keep lighter gear secured while leaving the main standing area open.

Its lightweight construction also makes it easier to unload, carry to the water and handle at the end of the day. Always consider the combined weight of the paddler, passengers and gear when loading the board.

Calm Days Near Coral Cove

On calm mornings, experienced paddlers may enjoy the Chameleon along the Jupiter Island shoreline near Coral Cove. Its efficient shape provides better glide than a traditional high-volume recreational board, making it more enjoyable when covering distance.

The Chameleon is not a dedicated surf SUP, and open-ocean paddling should only be attempted when wind, waves, current and personal experience are appropriate for the route.

Know Before You Launch

Conditions around Jupiter can change quickly. Wind, tides, boat traffic and inlet currents can make a familiar route considerably more challenging. Check the conditions before launching, wear or carry the required personal flotation device, use an appropriate leash and choose a route that matches your experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Surftech Chameleon 11'4" good for beginners?

Yes. The Chameleon’s 32-inch width and wide tail provide dependable stability for new and recreational paddlers. Its subtle displacement-style nose also gives progressing paddlers better tracking and glide than a traditional high-volume beginner board.

How is the Chameleon different from the Surftech Lido?

The Chameleon is slightly sleeker and more efficient through the water than the 11'6" Lido. Choose the Chameleon if you want a lighter board with improved tracking and glide. Choose the Lido if maximum stability and carrying capacity are your highest priorities.

Should I choose the 10'4" or 11'4" Chameleon?

Choose the 11'4" Chameleon if you want additional stability, deck space and room for light gear, a pup or a small child. The 10'4" is better suited to smaller paddlers who prioritize easier carrying, storage and maneuverability.

What is the recommended weight range for the 11'4" Chameleon?

Blueline recommends keeping the combined weight of the paddler, passengers and gear under approximately 200 pounds for the best balance of stability, tracking and glide. This is our preferred performance range rather than the board’s maximum flotation capacity.

Can I bring a child or dog on the Chameleon?

Yes, provided the combined weight remains within an appropriate range and the paddler can safely control the board. Keep passengers centered, start in calm and protected water, and make sure everyone has the proper safety equipment.

Can the Chameleon carry a cooler or dry bag?

The front cargo tie-downs can secure water, a dry bag or a small cooler. Keep the load light and balanced so additional gear does not negatively affect the board’s handling or stability.

Is the Chameleon suitable for ocean paddling?

The Chameleon can be used along the coast when conditions are calm and the paddler has the appropriate experience. It is not a dedicated surf SUP, and wind, waves, currents and inlet conditions should always be evaluated before launching.

Does the Chameleon include a paddle and leash?

The board includes its center fin. A paddle, leash, personal flotation device and board bag are sold separately unless a package is specifically stated on the product listing.

How should I transport and store the Chameleon?

Transport the board on a properly padded roof rack or suitable board-transport system. Rinse it after saltwater use and store it in a shaded, protected location away from prolonged sunlight and excessive heat. A padded board bag provides additional protection during transportation and storage.

Can I pick up the Chameleon at Blueline in Jupiter?

Local pickup may be available at Blueline Surf & Paddle Co. in Jupiter, Florida, depending on current inventory. Contact the shop before making the trip so our team can confirm availability and help arrange pickup.
